The Ministry of Agricultural Food and Forestry Policies (MIPAAF) is the main funding body for agricultural, agro-food, aquaculture and forestry issues in Italy. It is responsible for the definition of national research programmes in all areas of agriculture and forestry.

The General Directorate of Rural Development (DISR) defines and coordinates national rural development policies in coherence with the CAP and relates to the Italian Regions, on the basis of the agriculture, including forestry, mountain and landscape rural policies, and agro-food system needs.  The “Research and experimentation” Office (DISR IV, belonging to the mentioned GD) promotes and funds national multi-year research programmes and projects (mostly 3 years), investigating problems related to all aspects of agriculture.

International cooperation

Since 2004 DISR IV has gained a great experience being involved in 11 ERANET and 2 JPI, participating actively to the activities. DISR IV represents Mipaaf at SCAR working also in many CWGs.
